Rockville, MD…Byron Mouton dribbled the length of the court, went up for the emphatic two handed jam and flashed his trademarked fist pump coming down reminiscent of his days at the University of Maryland.

It was that kind of the night for the GreenHawks (3-10), who picked up a 112-108 victory over the visiting Manchester Millrats (4-12). The win also notched Chad Warren his first victory since being named GreenHawks Head Coach.

The GreenHawks started the first quarter off fast, with Terrance Mouton (17 points and eight assists) scoring the first six points of the game and built a 10 point lead, 31-21 with 1:09 to go in the first period. Manchester however would finish the quarter on a 6-2 run to pull within 33-27.

The Millrats started the second quarter off strong with an inside-out game of Stanley Ocitti (25 points and 12 rebounds) and Anthony Anderson (12 points and 11 assists) and went ahead 45-42 midway through the second quarter. The GreenHawks would not go away and finished the half strong holding a 60-55 lead going into halftime.

After exchanging baskets for most of the third quarter, Scooter Sherrill scored eight of his 23 points in the final quarter, a quarter which Maryland never trailed.

Byron’s Mouton (game-high 25 points) free throw with nine seconds left put Maryland up 112-108 and Anthony Anderson’s attempt at a four-point half court shot was off as the buzzer sounded.

In the victory, Derick Payne provided a spark off the bench with 17 points and eight rebounds, Ray Cunningham recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Michael Anderson added six points, 10 rebounds and nine blocked shots.

The GreenHawks will return to action Saturday evening at 7PM when they host the Puerto Rico Capitanes at Gaithersburg High School.
