About the Washington Greenhawks
The Washington GreenHawks are a professional entertainment basketball team that has been playing in Montgomery County, MD since 2004. We take pride in being the very first environmentally friendly "green" professional sports team in the United States.
In 2010 we expanded our "green" status to include a foundation to supplement environmental conscience by delivering the message that a healthy world begins with each of us committing ourselves to maintain a healthy body through proper nutrition, exercise and respect for our bodies. This message we deliver to a very enthusiastic audience of children via the entertaining medium of professional basketball.
Through the foundation, Green Hoops for Hope (a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, www.GreenHoopsforHope.org), we visit schools and deliver positive messages through our experienced GreenHawks players. We then proceed to provide one of two highly entertaining events. For a fundraiser game, our GreenHawks players put on a dazzling basketball game played against your chosen team of faculty, staff, older students, coaches, and even some parents. Schools and businesses also have the option of hiring one or two of our players (and mascot, Dunkin!) for an assembly in which the GreenHawks perform a skills demonstration and give an inspirational speech to the kids about living healthy lifestyles and staying active in the community. The players, who have either played in the NBA, in Europe, or at a Division I collegiate basketball program, resemble the Harlem Globetrotters in style, but also provide the ability of your students to get up close and actually speak with them and get autographs after the event.
Not only do the GreenHawks serve as a very exciting outlet for communities to develop school spirit, but it is also a way for schools to raise a significant amount of funds in order to meet their fundraising goals. It is not unusual to expect to raise funds in the ten thousands on a given night, depending upon the size and capacity of a facility to seat spectators and the commitment with which a school publicizes the event.
We look forward to visiting your school soon!
